Stream water quality monitoring and modeling

Using a variety of field assessment and data analyses, we aim to improve predictive understanding of how streams function in terms of transporting water, solutes, and materials across the critical zone, how that varies both in space and in time, and how these processes translate to water quality impacts.

Agricultural impacts on water resources

Agriculture is the most dominant form of land use on the planet's habitable surface. Under current management systems, agriculture is often at odds with environmental and water resource sustainability. We are interested in understanding in what contexts different types of agricultural land use impacts water resources, whether negatively or positively, in order to inform management decisions and policy.

Biogeochemistry:
Redox processes

Reduction-oxidation reactions are fundamental processes for life on the planet. Aquatic ecosystems are no exception, and these reactions are critical for water quality. I am interested in understanding under what conditions certain reactions (e.g., denitrification) will occur, and how these reactions link together elemental cycles (e.g., nitrogen, carbon, iron, sulfur)
